About Kolkata Police Constable

The Kolkata Police Constable Recruitment is conducted by the West Bengal Police Recruitment Board (WBPRB) to recruit eligible candidates for the post of Constable in Kolkata Police. The recruitment process includes a written examination, physical tests, and document verification to ensure candidates are mentally and physically fit for police service.

Kolkata Police Constable Exam Pattern for Preliminary Written Test

The preliminary written exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
A total of 100 objective-type questions will be asked.
1 mark will be awarded for each correct answer and 1/4 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
The preliminary written test is qualifying in nature.

Kolkata Police Constable ELIGIBILITY

Educational Qualification

Candidate must have passed Madhyamik (Class 10) or equivalent examination from a recognized board.

Age Limit

Minimum Age: 18 Years
Maximum Age: 27 Years
Age relaxation is applicable for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen and other reserved categories as per government rules.

Nationality & Language

Must be a citizen of India
Must be able to read, write, and speak Bengali
Knowledge of Bengali is not mandatory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali

Medical & Physical Fitness

Candidates must be physically and medically fit as per the standards prescribed by the recruitment board. Physical standards are verified during the PMT and PET stages.

Physical Standards – Male Candidates

Height: 167 cm
(160 cm for candidates belonging to Gorkha community)
Chest:
- Unexpanded: 79 cm
- Expanded: 84 cm (minimum 5 cm expansion)

Physical Standards – Female Candidates

Height: 160 cm
(155 cm for candidates belonging to Gorkha community)
Chest: Not applicable

Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Running
- Male Candidates: 1600 meters within 6 minutes 30 seconds
- Female Candidates: 800 meters within 4 minutes
Long Jump
- Male Candidates: 3.80 meters (3 chances)
- Female Candidates: 2.50 meters (3 chances)

Note: Physical Measurement Test (PMT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET) are qualifying in nature. Candidates failing to meet the prescribed standards will be disqualified.

Age Relaxation (Category-wise)

Scheduled Caste (SC): 5 Years
Scheduled Tribe (ST): 5 Years
Other Backward Classes (OBC): 3 Years
Ex-Servicemen: As per Government rules
Civic Volunteers (WB): As per official notification

Physical Relaxation (Category-wise)

Gorkha Community:
- Male Height Relaxation: Up to 160 cm
- Female Height Relaxation: Up to 155 cm
Chest Relaxation (Male):
- Applicable as per WBPRB norms for reserved categories

Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Relaxation

No separate PET relaxation is generally provided for reserved categories.
Candidates must qualify the prescribed PET standards as notified by the recruitment board.
