NISAR stands for NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar and is a joint Earth-observing mission between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The satellite was launched by ISRO on 30 July 2025 aboard the GSLV-F16 rocket from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.
NISAR carries dual-frequency polarimetric synthetic aperture radars — an L-band radar supplied by NASA and an S-band radar provided by ISRO — enabling all-weather, day-and-night imaging to monitor changes in land, ice, and ecosystems.
